Introduction

Prestige Somerville to the airport is a 60-minute drive from the Kempegowda International Airport. It's an Ultra Luxury project by a prestige group. Kempegowda International Airport is one of the best international airports in India. It has been serving Bangalore, the capital of Karnataka, since 2008. This airport is spread over 4000 acres and is 30 km north of Devanahalli. The airport is for domestic as well as international operations. It offers connecting flights to six continents and five other direct flights. In FY 2022-23, it served almost 32 million passengers and 411 tonnes of cargo.

Background: Before opening of this airport only HAL Airport used to serve Bangalore. It was launched to reduce HAL Airport's traffic issues. The work of Kempegowda International Airport began in 2005 & took 32 months to finish. The initial name of this airport was "Bangalore International Airport". In 2013, the airport was renamed as "Kempegowda International Airport" after the name of the local chief of Bangalore, Kempe Gowda.

Ownership: Bengaluru International Airport Limited (BIAL) owns and operates this airport. BIAL is a public and private venture. In 2018, the shares of this airport were divided into 2 parts. The government took 26%, and private entities took the rest, 74%.

Airline Hubs: It is the hub for many famous international and domestic airlines. A total of 38 airlines and 96 spots are here in passenger traffic. In 2014, Air Asia began its hub in this airport. Now, this airport is the hub for airlines such as IndiGo, AIX Connect, Indian Airlines, Star Air, etc.

Facilities: This huge airport has a total of 2 terminals with great facilities. Terminal 1 is for domestic operations, spread over 1 lakh sq ft. It can handle 20 million commuters a year. Terminal 2 is in the 'Garden City' theme, and the size is 2.5 lakhs sq mt. It can handle around 45 million commuters in a year. Terminal 2 handles both international & domestic flights.

This airport has cargo facilities, fuel services, food services and an IndiGo Training Academy.

Connectivity: It is a major thing that enhances the use of an airport. This airport offers great connectivity via metro, rail and roads. There are six flyovers to connect NH 44, Hebbal and the airport.

One can take taxis or cabs to reach the airport. There are around 2000 spaces present in the car parking area. BMTC & KSRTC bus services are present that connect major regions of the city with the airport.

The Namma Metro's blue line connects Hebbal, KR Puram & this airport. Five trains via Devanahalli daily stop at the KIA halt that connects the airport. High-Speed Rail Link (HSRL), the new project of the Karnataka Government, will increase connectivity to the airport.
